The Road to Freedom

The pinnacle of human arrogance is to think that government can know the minds and activities of all individuals and by that knowledge plan a fair economy. Central planning and the redistribution of wealth are illusions tried by many but failed by all.

Governmental control of the economy paves the way for the corruption of centralized power that will inevitably be seized by the most corrupt and power hungry. Freedom from control makes way for individualized success and opportunity. This is the essence of freedom and liberty. It is also the road to responsibility that underscores all success.

Although we affirm that all men are created equal in value, everyone is unique and their value is not found in forced equal outcomes but by the freedom to be the individual they are and to market that uniqueness in the marketplace of free exchange. Sameness is not equality, and equality is not a level line.

The economic base of private property is our guarantee of freedom to strive, to struggle and to accumulate wealth, not by legislative constraint but by individual effort. It is only by the efforts of many, acting independently, that we are free from constraint and are then citizens of liberty. Then the participation of all brings success to all.

The role of government is to protect those freedoms not to create them.
