Chess Not Checkers

“Earth to God – Listen up God, We’ve got problems!”

North Korea – Communist North Korea just released a disturbing video showing a simulated nuclear strike against our Capitol. The subtitle reads: “If the American imperialists provoke us a bit, we will not hesitate to slap them with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.”

Turkey – Because of the instability of Turkey and its economic problems we have removed our medium range missiles, which were our main defense against the eastern bloc.

Guam – Because of the intrusion of the New Chinese naval power and its claim to the South-East seas, we have relocated our missiles to Australia.

Cuba – We have been assured that the closing of Guantanamo, our last remaining deep sea port in the region, is not a threat to our regional security because we are now friends with our former enemy. This in spite of the fact that our intelligence community assures us that ISIS training is happening at a camp on Cuban soil and that the Russian presence has recently increased dramatically.

USA – San Bernardino, we are led to believe is an isolated incident by a cell disconnected from any organized threat. ISIS is not interested in the USA and is concentrated on disrupting Europe, we are also told.

Putin continues his master plan by his involvement in the Middle East and his continued chess game in Eastern Europe. He is ex-KGB as we know and is not playing games. He is a master chess player and continues to probe our willingness to allow him free course to do as he pleases, and so far all of the cards are stacked in his favor. We allow him free course to do as he pleases with responding speeches but no action. He tests us yet.

Somehow this reminds me of the arguments prior to World War II, and other more regional conflicts. We are really a peaceful people and while other world leaders are playing chess, we are playing checkers. In chess you have to plan ahead and have counter measure moves worked out ahead of any contingent move by your opponent. In checkers, you cannot plan ahead, you can only respond move by move.

• Will Kim Jong Un continue to platform himself on the world stage of power? Answer: Do birds fly?
• Will ISIS make another hit within the USA or more hits? Answer: Did Noah build an ark?
• Will Putin continue to destabilize Eastern Europe and the Middle East? Answer: Duh?
• Will Cuba now become aligned with the USA and be our friend and ally, adopting our sense of values? Answer? Are you kidding me?
• Will our world be different from the world history of the past and now settle into a time of peace and prosperity, where the rich give their money to the poor and we all gather at the mall to sing “Kumbaya”? Answer: Come on folks, get real!

We live in difficult times as we have in generations past, and our focus is on which actress out-dresses her competition, which male actor is coming out of the closet and which new cell phone can do the most trick apps. We have been patronized, pampered and lulled into an aimless game of checkers in the park, while our enemies, which we think are our friends, are playing chess with the power structures of the world.

Be careful who you vote for this election. We need a strong statesman and a wise warrior.
